Tip Of The Week

To improve your chipping try the following drill.Using your Sand Wedge learn how to carry your chip shots 5,10,15,20 and 25 yards.Place cones or markers at 5 yard intervals and try to land the ball next to your distance markers. It is a great way to develop feel and will benefit you greatly when playing shots around the green as you will be concentrating on where the ball should land as opposed to where it should end up.

To improve performance  and help you to add variety to your short game also use a pw,lob wedge and 9 iron for the above distances.

DAVIDKEATINGGOLF.COM(COURSE DRILLS)

1 Play 9 holes with 3 balls:Play a 3ball scramble using the worst ball after each shot.Your aim after 6 attempts is to shoot under par for 9 holes. When you have achieved this over 9 holes you must then try it over 18 holes.

Reverse this drill over 18 holes using the best ball on each occasion. This will give you an idea of what you are capable of if you work hard enough and play full time

2 On the course, on the front nine, decide what club you would probably have in on the hole and use that club off the tee. This game is great for working your fairway woods and your short game. On the back nine, use any club off the tee other than your driver. Make yourself see your home course from different distances and perspectives. This is a great way to give yourself a new fresh look at your course.

3 Play 9 with no woods today. How many greens and fairways did you hit?

As you play, choose the toughest place on each hole to get the ball up and down and stay until you do so.

As you play, drop a ball inside the 100 yd markers on each hole and get it up and down.

4 In your practice and qualifying rounds, please note the distance of any shots you have from 20-100 yards and how long your putt was after you hit the shot. Please do this on the back of your stat sheet.

5 Play a round of golf and hit at least one bunker on each hole. If you don’t get it up and down, you must hit two bunkers on the next hole. Play with friends and have fun with it.

6 Commit fully to each shot you hit when you play. Focus on your possibilities. Beware of focusing on what isn’t going well, recognize it and get your focus back to your possibilities.

7 Play the course using only three clubs plus a putter.8 Play 9 holes from the 150 yard marker.

9 Play nine holes. From the fairway, choose the position you think will be the easiest up and down and the toughest up and down on each hole. When you get to the green, throw a ball down in both places and get them up and down. Were you correct in your choices?

.

10 Play from the 150 yard markers and shoot 50 or less. Higher scores won’t meet the goal. You may tee it up.

11 On the course, play 18 holes. If you miss a green, you must retire the club you used to hit the shot. How many clubs were retired when you finished?

12 On the course, play 18 holes. If you miss a fairway, you must retire the club used off the tee. On Par 3’s, hit the green.

13 Play at least nine with a partner or caddy. Talk to your partner and describe the shot you will hit prior to hitting it during your pre shot routine.

14 On the course, play nine or eighteen holes. Drop a ball 25-75 yards in front of the green. How many out of 18 did you get up and down? Did you have a distance that is best for you? Vary your clubs and trajectories.

15 If possible, play the golf course in new ways. Go out late in the evening or first thing in the morning and play holes you design. For example, play from number one tee to number three green. This is great for imagination and shot making.

16 Play match play against a partner. Whenever you win a hole, you get to take any club away from your partner. If they win a hole, they can take a club from you. You may take either the clubs you lost earlier or one of their clubs.
